AMHERST, Mass. – Seniors Tom Schutz (Trumbull, Conn.), Andrew Liu (Piedmont, Calif.) and Sal Lo Medico (Harrison, N.Y.) of the Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team were all selected to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) All-Academic Team, recently, earning three of the 12 Division II spots.
Schutz, an environmental science major with a 3.79 GPA, played in all 14 games for the Penmen this season, registering 30 points on 23 goals and seven assists. Schutz, who led the team in goals, while tying for the lead in points, also tied for 29th in the NE10 in goals and 38th in points.
Liu started all 10 games he played in, as one of the best faceoff men in the conference. He won a career-best 62 percent (140-227) of his faceoffs, scooped up 63 ground balls and also scored a goal. Liu ranked eighth in the NE10 in faceoff wins and faceoff percentage, as well as 10th in ground balls. He is a law & politics major with a 3.57 GPA.
Lo Medico, a justice studies major with a 3.24 GPA, started all 14 games, as he helped anchor the defensive unit. Lo Medico gathered 41 ground balls and caused 16 turnovers, ranking fourth and second on the team in those respective categories. He placed 19th in the league in caused turnovers.
NEILA All-Academic Team nominees must have senior standing, a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale, and be a significant enough player that he was nominated for at least All-Conference selection.
